The Tree In Winter

This is a little poem I wrote, inspired by the blog of the lovely and talented poet, Laura Purdie Salas. Thank you for helping me find my tiny inner poet, Laura! It was fun to illustrate this wee poem, and I am very pleased with how it turned out. We sent this postcard out to fam & friends as our holiday card (with love from the Crittendens), and today I'm sending out another version (with my contact info on it) to all the fab art directors and publishers that I would love to get a chance to work with someday. Plus, there is a new b&w page on my website now. Fun!
Happy 2012! Wishing you and yours every happiness! May all your trees be full of happy birdies and cheeky squirrels!

Nina, this was beautiful--both words and art! I feel so lucky that my blog helped you find your inner poet.

Also, I put you on my list of 5 for the Versatile Blogger Award, if you have time to participate. http://laurasalas.wordpress.com/2012/01/11/a-blog-award-like-a-knife-in-the-heart/

This is the most charming card I've seen all season, Nina! And the story of it being inspired by Laura's blog is great. It's adorable and delightful and could be a start to a picture book. Great luck with the mailer - I would hug this piece of paper! Oh, I long to do some little project with you someday... a.

This is so lovely! I'm always so daunted by the idea of writing a poem, but a little short one like this seems doable. Thanks for sharing!

Squirrels are not so popular with me because they eat (and sometimes only half eat) my strawberries and have no idea what it means to share.

Even so, I think it's a lovely poem. Congrats!
